Tab Management

WebLibre gives you more control over tabs than most mobile browsers. You can choose different tab types, switch between tab views, filter large tab lists, and change how tab controls appear on screen.

Choose the Right Tab Type

WebLibre supports three tab types:

Regular

Regular tabs are for normal day-to-day browsing. History is saved, and websites can keep using the same cookies and site data for that browsing context.

Use regular tabs for sites you visit often and want to stay signed in to.

Private

Private tabs are for browsing you do not want added to your normal history. WebLibre describes these as Private tabs.

Use private tabs when you want a temporary session that stays separate from your regular tabs.

Isolated

Isolated tabs are more separated than regular or private tabs. Each isolated tab gets its own separate session. Even two isolated tabs opened to the same site are kept apart from each other.

Use isolated tabs when you want to:

  • sign in to the same site with multiple accounts

  • open a one-off session that should not mix with your other tabs

  • test how a site behaves for a fresh visitor

If you do not see isolated-tab options in the app, turn on Settings > Browsing > Show Isolated Tab UI.

Open the Tab View

To manage tabs in one place, open the tab view by tapping the tab count in the browser.

This is where you can:

  • switch between tab views

  • search inside tabs

  • filter and sort tabs

  • close groups of tabs

Switch Between Tab Views

WebLibre has three tab views:

List

Shows tabs in a compact vertical list. Good when you want to scan titles quickly.

Grid

Shows tabs as larger preview cards. Good when page thumbnails help you recognize the right tab faster.

Tree

Shows parent-child relationships between tabs. Good for research sessions and link trails.

You switch views from the tab view header.

Use Child Tabs with Tree View

Tree view works best when Create Child Tabs is enabled. This setting adds a way to create a child tab under the current tab, so related pages stay grouped in the tree.

Find it in Settings > Browsing > Create Child Tabs.

If you do not use tree view, you may not need this setting.

Find Tabs Faster

In List and Grid view, WebLibre lets you narrow down long tab lists.

Search inside tabs

Use the search button in the tab view to look through your open tabs.

Tab Type

Filter tabs by All Tabs, Regular, Private, or Isolated.

Sort

Choose Default, Title A-Z, Title Z-A, URL A-Z, URL Z-A, Newest First, or Oldest First.

Filter Date

Pick a custom date range.

Quick Interval

Filter by recent activity such as Last Hour, Last Day, Last Week, or similar built-in ranges.

Reset Filter

Clear the active tab filters and return to the full list.

Tree view does not show the search and filter tools, so switch back to List or Grid if you need them.

Close Multiple Tabs at Once

In the tab view menu, open Close Tabs for bulk actions.

Available options include:

  • All Tabs — closes all displayed tabs

  • Private Tabs — closes displayed private tabs

  • Isolated Tabs — closes displayed isolated tabs when isolated-tab UI is enabled

  • Filtered Tabs — closes only the tabs that match your current filters

This is useful when you want to quickly clean up private tabs or remove older tabs after using Filter Date or Quick Interval.

Quick Tab Switcher

The quick tab switcher adds an extra bar so you can jump between tabs without opening the full tab view.

Turn it on in Settings > Toolbar & Layout > Show Quick Tab Switcher Bar.

You can then adjust:

  • Quick Tab Switcher Mode — choose Recently Used Tabs or Container Tabs

  • History Fallback in Quick Tab Switcher — shows history suggestions when there are no tab chips available

  • Show Titles in Quick Tab Switcher — shows tab titles next to icons

The Container Tabs mode only appears if container UI is enabled.

Tab Bar and Tab View Layout

You can change how tab controls look and where they appear in Settings > Toolbar & Layout.

Common options include:

  • Tab Bar Position — Top or Bottom

  • Tab Bar Style — With Title or Compact

  • Auto Hide Tab Bar — hides the tab bar while scrolling

  • Bottom Sheet Tab View — opens the tab view as a bottom sheet instead of full screen

  • Show Favicons in List View — shows website icons instead of page thumbnails in list view

If you browse one-handed, Bottom is usually easier to reach.

When another app sends a link to WebLibre, External Link Handling decides how that link opens.

Choices are:

  • Prompt — ask each time

  • Regular — always open in a regular tab

  • Private — always open in a private tab

Find it in Settings > Browsing > External Link Handling.

This is different from Open Links in Apps, which controls whether links tapped inside WebLibre should open another app on your device.
