Preview: These docs are available early so you can start using them now. Some pages may still be incomplete, outdated, or change as WebLibre develops.

First Launch Guide

When you open WebLibre for the first time, it guides you through a short setup flow.

You start by choosing one of two setup modes:

  • Quick Start uses recommended defaults and installs uBlock Origin automatically when you finish setup.

  • Custom Setup shows extra pages so you can choose DNS, toolbar, and extension options yourself.

If WebLibre asks you to review setup again after an update, your current settings are not changed unless you change them during that walkthrough.

Welcome

The first screen asks you to:

  • choose Quick Start or Custom Setup

  • read and accept the EULA and Privacy Policy

You cannot continue until those documents are accepted.

Next, WebLibre asks how search should work.

You can choose a Default Search Provider for searches from the address bar. The first suggestions shown in setup focus on common privacy-oriented providers, and you can use Search more if you want a different one.

You can also choose a Default Autocomplete Provider, which controls where search suggestions come from while you type.

You can change both later in Settings > Search.

DNS over HTTPS

This page appears in Custom Setup.

DNS is what turns a site name like example.com into a network address. Without DNS over HTTPS, those lookups may be visible to your internet provider, local network, or public Wi-Fi operator.

WebLibre lets you choose a Protection Level and a DoH Provider. Built-in providers are available, and you can also enter a custom resolver URL.

If you are not sure what to choose, the default protection level is the safest starting point.

Tab Bar, Toolbar, and Tab View

This page appears in Custom Setup.

Here you choose how browser controls are arranged. This page includes settings such as:

  • Tab Bar Position

  • Tab Bar Style

  • Show Contextual Toolbar

  • Show Quick Tab Switcher Bar

  • Bottom Sheet Tab View

The most visible choice is Tab Bar Position:

  • Top keeps the tab bar at the top of the screen.

  • Bottom puts it within easier thumb reach and supports auto-hide.

You can review the full set later in Settings > Toolbar & Layout.

Privacy & Hardening

This page is where WebLibre asks about stronger privacy protections. It includes options such as:

  • Browser Languages

  • Complete Web Engine Hardening

  • Hardened Fingerprint Protection

  • Local Network Protection

These settings can improve privacy, but stronger protection can also make some sites behave differently. If something breaks later, you can come back and make this page less strict.

AI Features

WebLibre also asks whether to enable On-Device AI.

This controls local features such as container topic and tab suggestions. According to the app, this processing happens on your device.

If you do not want those suggestions, leave it off. You can change it later in Settings > Web Content.

uBlock Origin

This page appears in Custom Setup.

WebLibre can install uBlock Origin, a well-known content blocker that helps block ads, trackers, and other unwanted page elements. For many people, this makes sites cleaner and can reduce data use.

If you choose Quick Start, WebLibre installs uBlock Origin automatically at the end of setup.

Permissions

The last setup page covers a small number of Android-level permissions and integrations. At the moment, setup asks about:

  • Notifications for download status updates

  • Default Browser if you want links from other apps to open in WebLibre

If you skip either option, you can still turn it on later in Android or WebLibre settings.

What To Do Next

After setup, you are ready to browse. These pages are useful next steps:

  • Privacy Setup — check the most important protections

  • Containers — separate work, shopping, banking, and personal browsing

  • Bang Providers — search specific websites directly from the address bar

  • Profiles — create separate locked spaces for different people or use cases

  • Tor — route sensitive browsing through Tor when needed

  • Sync — sync bookmarks, tabs, and more with your other devices
