Home Screen & Top Sites

WebLibre has two nearby but different "start" experiences:

  • the browser home surface you see in an empty tab or empty container

  • the searchable start view that can show Top Sites and other quick sections

This page explains what appears there and how to make use of it.

Browser Home

When WebLibre has no active page to show, it can open a simple home surface instead of a blank screen.

Depending on context, you may see:

  • the normal WebLibre brand header

  • a container-specific header if you are inside a container

  • a quote card

  • quick actions such as New tab, View tabs, or Resume last tab

The quote card includes Refresh quote if you want a different one.

Container-Aware Home State

If you open the home surface while a specific container is selected, WebLibre adapts the view to that container.

For example, it can show:

  • the container name

  • a container-colored header

  • Resume last tab for that container when one exists

That helps the empty state feel tied to the container you are working in instead of feeling like a generic browser screen.

Top Sites

Top Sites are quick-launch tiles for pages you open often.

In current WebLibre builds, Top Sites appear in the start or empty search experience, not as the same thing as bookmarks. They are meant for fast access, while Bookmarks are better for long-term saved pages and folder organization.

Top Sites can come from different sources:

  • pinned sites you chose yourself

  • built-in default sites

  • history-based suggestions

Some tiles may show a pin badge or a default-site badge so you can tell where they came from.

Open a Top Site

To use one:

  1. Open the start or search view

  2. Find the Top Sites section

  3. Tap the tile you want

WebLibre opens that page directly.

Pin, Edit, or Remove a Top Site

Top Site tiles support extra actions through their menu.

Depending on the kind of tile, you may see:

  • Pin

  • Edit

  • Remove

Pinned sites are good for pages you want to keep available even if your browsing history changes.

If you edit a Top Site, you can change its title or address. If you remove one, WebLibre hides it from the Top Sites area.

Reorder Top Sites

If you have enough persisted Top Sites, WebLibre can let you reorder them.

To do that:

  1. Open the Top Sites section

  2. Turn on reordering mode

  3. Drag and drop the tiles into the order you want

Only persisted Top Sites take part in reordering. History-based suggestions may still appear, but they are not the same as your manually ordered pinned set.

How Top Sites Differ from Bookmarks

Top Sites are best for:

  • frequently opened pages

  • a small quick-access set

  • pages you want available from the start screen

Bookmarks are better for:

  • long-term saved pages

  • folders and subfolders

  • imports and exports

  • large organized collections

If you want a page to stay permanently easy to find, save it as a bookmark even if it also appears in Top Sites.

The same start area can also show other quick sections, such as:

  • Recent Tabs

  • Recent History

  • History Highlights

  • Recent Articles

  • Containers

You can learn more about those in Search Modules.

Tips

  • Use Top Sites for quick access and bookmarks for long-term organization

  • Pin the pages you want to keep stable even when your browsing habits change

  • Refresh the quote if you use the home surface as a calm starting page

  • If you prefer fewer sections in the start area, reorder or hide them through Search Modules
