Site Permissions

Some websites ask to use parts of your device or browser, such as your camera, microphone, location, or notifications.

WebLibre saves these choices per site, so allowing one website does not automatically allow others.

Use site permissions when you want to:

  • let a trusted site use something it needs, such as your camera for a video call

  • block a site that asks for more access than you want to give

  • reset an old decision so the site asks again later

Permission Types

WebLibre can store permission choices for these site controls:

Permission What It Controls

Camera

Whether a website can access your device’s camera

Microphone

Whether a website can record audio

Location

Whether a website can see your geographic location

Notifications

Whether a website can send you notifications

Persistent Storage

Whether a website can ask to keep site data stored more permanently

Cross-Origin Storage

Whether a website can request access to some storage across related site origins

Media Key System (DRM)

Whether a website can use DRM to play protected content, such as some streaming video or audio

The last three are more technical than camera or location. Most people only need to change them when a site feature is not working as expected.

How Permissions Work

When a website asks for a permission, WebLibre can remember your choice for that site.

The saved choices you will see in the site panel are:

  • Ask — do not keep a fixed decision; let the site ask again

  • Allow — let that site use the permission

  • Block — deny that permission for that site

If you change a saved permission back to Ask, the site may prompt again the next time it needs that access.

Change Permissions For One Site

You can change permissions for the site you are currently visiting:

  1. Open the current site’s page panel while you are on that website

  2. Find the Permissions section

  3. Change a permission to Ask, Allow, or Block

If no permissions have been saved yet, WebLibre may show No permissions set for this site. Use Show all to view the full list.

Changes apply to that site only.

Reset All Saved Site Permissions

If you want WebLibre to forget all saved site permission decisions at once:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Delete Browsing Data

  2. Select Site permissions

  3. Tap Delete

This clears saved site permission decisions. Websites can ask again the next time they need access.

Autoplay For A Site

WebLibre also lets you control autoplay per site in the same site panel.

The available options are:

  • Allow All — let media start automatically

  • Block Audible — allow muted media, but block media with sound

  • Block All — block autoplay completely

Autoplay appears separately from the other site permissions.

Tips

  • If you are unsure, leave a permission on Ask or choose Block until a site proves it needs access

  • Blocking camera, microphone, location, or DRM can stop parts of a site from working until you allow them

  • Resetting Site permissions in Delete Browsing Data only clears saved permission decisions; it is separate from clearing cookies or cache

  • Incognito Mode can help limit what stays saved between sessions
