Website Notifications

WebLibre can show notifications from websites even when the browser is closed. Delivery uses UnifiedPush rather than Google’s push service. You choose a separate delivery app (a distributor), such as ntfy, to carry those messages.

Website notifications are optional. A site cannot send them until you grant that site’s permission, and delivery also depends on a distributor and Android’s notification permission.

Set Up Delivery

  1. Install a UnifiedPush distributor app if you do not already have one. Follow that app’s setup instructions; some distributors use a service you choose or host yourself.

  2. Open Settings > Notifications in WebLibre.

  3. Under UnifiedPush Distributor, choose the installed delivery app.

  4. Under Notification Permission, grant Android’s permission if it is not already granted.

  5. When a website asks to send notifications, choose whether to allow it.

The settings screen shows whether the distributor is ready and lists your Site Subscriptions. If a distributor is unavailable or Android permission is denied, notifications may not appear until you resolve that issue.

Manage a Site

To stop one website from notifying you, open that site’s information panel and change its Notifications permission to Block or Ask. The subscription list in Settings > Notifications shows sites using push, but it does not have a per-site unsubscribe button.

To disable website push delivery altogether, use Disable web push under UnifiedPush Distributor. Your distributor choice and subscriptions are separate for each WebLibre profile.

What to Expect

  • The website, the distributor app, and its delivery service are involved when you enable push. Choose a provider you trust; this feature does not make notifications anonymous.

  • Messages can arrive while WebLibre is closed, but delivery depends on the distributor being available and on Android allowing notifications.

  • Android’s notification permission also controls other WebLibre notifications, such as download status. It does not grant permission to individual websites.
