App Lock
WebLibre can lock a profile so someone using your phone cannot open that profile without authenticating first. This is useful if you share a device or want extra protection for a sensitive profile.
| In the current app, this protection is configured per profile, not as one global browser-wide setting. |
Turn It On
-
Open the profile manager in WebLibre.
-
Open the profile you want to protect.
-
In the Authentication section, choose Profile password or Device lock.
-
Under Auto-lock, choose when the profile locks again.
-
If you choose Lock after a timeout, also set the Timeout.
Each profile has its own lock method. A profile password cannot be bypassed with your fingerprint or device PIN.
Available Options
Choose a Lock Method
Choose Profile password for a password specific to that profile, Device lock for Android’s fingerprint, face, or device PIN protection, or No lock. Anyone who can unlock the device can open a device-locked profile. Android protection needs a screen lock set up on the device; if it is unavailable, check Android’s screen-lock settings.
Keep a profile password somewhere safe. WebLibre cannot recover a forgotten one. Five incorrect attempts lead to increasing waiting periods that persist after an app restart.
Auto-lock
WebLibre offers three lock modes:
-
Lock in background — locks as soon as WebLibre goes into the background, such as when you switch apps or return to the home screen.
-
Lock after a timeout — keeps the profile unlocked for a limited time, then locks it after the selected timeout expires.
-
Lock on startup only — asks you to unlock once when the app starts, then stays unlocked until the app is fully closed.
If you switch in and out of WebLibre often, Lock after a timeout or Lock on startup only is usually more convenient. If you want the strongest protection, use Lock in background.
What To Expect
When a protected profile is locked, WebLibre shows Profile is locked with an Unlock button. The app may also try to start authentication automatically when that screen appears.
For a device-protected profile, use the authentication offered by Android. For a password-protected profile, enter that profile’s password. If another profile exists, you can switch to it from the lock screen, even if the startup profile picker is disabled.
Important Notes
-
This feature protects the selected profile, not every profile at once
-
Each profile has its own lock method. Backing up, deleting, or replacing a locked profile requires its own unlock method, even while managing it from another profile. Changing or disabling a lock also requires authentication
-
Installed website apps and Custom Tabs tied to a locked profile require an unlock before showing their content
-
Profile passwords restrict access through WebLibre; they do not encrypt profile data stored on the device. A backup’s encryption password is separate
-
Containers separate selected browsing inside a profile, but do not have their own authentication lock
-
If you switch to a different profile, WebLibre restarts into that profile; if that profile is protected, you will need to unlock it before use
-
Set up an Android screen lock if you choose device authentication; a profile password does not use your device PIN
