Keyboard Shortcuts

If you use a tablet, Chromebook, or Android device with a physical keyboard, WebLibre can run browser actions with key combinations. Shortcuts are on by default, and they also work while a web page has focus.

The default keys follow Firefox on desktop, so most of them work the way you already expect.

See Your Shortcuts

Press Ctrl+/ to open a list of the keys that currently run browser actions, grouped by category. From that list, choose Customize to jump to the settings.

Menus can also show a shortcut hint next to an entry. These hints appear while you use a mouse or trackpad, or when the WebLibre window is wide.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl+/

The font shortcuts change WebLibre’s text size, which is the closest equivalent to page zoom in desktop Firefox. Actions such as Duplicate Tab, Tab View, or Settings have no default keys, but you can assign your own. Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, and Escape are left to the web page on purpose.

Holding the keys for Next Tab, Previous Tab, moving a tab, Find Next, Find Previous, or changing the font size repeats the action. Other shortcuts run once per press, so holding Ctrl+W closes only one tab.

Customize Shortcuts

  1. Open Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts.

  2. Make sure Enable Keyboard Shortcuts is on.

  3. Search for an action or key, then choose an action to add or change its shortcut.

  4. Press the new key combination and save it.

You can assign shortcuts for navigation, tabs, page tools, text size, bookmarks, browser screens, and app actions. If a combination belongs to another action, WebLibre tells you and moves it to the new action when you save. Single printable keys needed by web pages cannot be assigned on their own; hold Ctrl, Alt, or Meta with them, or use a function key instead.

Remove an assignment if you do not need it, use Reset to default for an individual action, or use Restore default shortcuts to reset all custom assignments.

Two Ways to Bookmark

The default Ctrl+D opens the bookmark editor through Add bookmark. If the page is already bookmarked, it opens that bookmark for editing. To save or remove a bookmark without the editor, assign a key to Quick bookmark instead. The toolbar bookmark button still works in one step. See Bookmarks.

What to Expect

  • Browser shortcuts pause while Settings, a dialog, or a panel such as the tab view is open, so Ctrl+W cannot close a tab hidden behind it.

  • Keyboard input that is not a browser shortcut still reaches the page you are using.

  • While the tab view or Site Settings is open, keyboard focus stays inside it. Press Escape to close it and return focus to where you were.

  • Keyboard shortcuts, drawn gestures, and toolbar long presses use the same set of browser actions but have separate assignments.

  • Your shortcut settings are included in settings exports.
