Home Screen & Shortcuts
WebLibre has two related start pages:
-
the home page shown when there is no tab to display
-
the new-tab page shown when you open a new tab
Both offer search and useful sections, but you can customize their sections separately.
Browser Home
By default, WebLibre shows the home page when you open the app without a tab or close your last tab.
The search field offers voice search and QR scanning. Below it, the page can show sections such as Quick Actions, Shortcuts, Recent Tabs, and a daily quote. Quick actions include New tab, View tabs, and Resume last tab when available. Depending on context, you may also see:
-
the normal WebLibre brand header
-
a container-specific header if you are inside a container
-
a quote card
The quote card includes Refresh quote if you want a different one.
Choose What Opens Without a Tab
In Settings > Home & New Tab > When there is no tab to show, choose the home page (default), resume your last tab, or open an address you enter. Turn on Apply when the last tab closes if you also want that choice when you close the last tab in a container, instead of opening a tab from another container. That option is off by default.
Customize the Start Pages
Open Settings > Home & New Tab to adjust these separately:
-
Customize home sections — reorder, hide, or reset the sections on the home page
-
Customize new tab sections — set a different order and visibility for new tabs
-
Search bar position — follow the tab bar (default), pin search to the top of the home page, or use the tab bar’s address field
-
Wallpaper — choose a background image and adjust blur or dimming so text stays readable
You can set a different wallpaper for a container in its editor. Search-result sections shown after you start typing are configured separately; see Search Modules.
Support WebLibre Banner
The home surface can show a dismissible Support WebLibre card. It explains the optional Supporter subscription, which funds development and powers the features that need a hosted service (WebLibre Search and encrypted account sync).
The browser and all its privacy features remain free and need no subscription. The banner hides automatically once you dismiss it or if you are already a supporter.

Container-Aware Home State
If you open the home surface while a specific container is selected, WebLibre adapts the view to that container.
For example, it can show:
-
the container name
-
a container-colored header
-
Resume last tab for that container when one exists
That helps the empty state feel tied to the container you are working in instead of feeling like a generic browser screen.
Shortcuts
Shortcuts are quick-launch tiles for pages you open often.
Shortcuts appear in the start or empty search experience, and they are not the same thing as bookmarks. They are meant for fast access, while Bookmarks are better for long-term saved pages and folder organization.
Shortcuts can come from different sources:
-
sites you pinned yourself
-
built-in default sites
-
history-based suggestions
Some tiles may show a pin badge or a default-site badge so you can tell where they came from.
Open a Shortcut
To use one:
-
Open the start or search view
-
Find the Shortcuts section
-
Tap the tile you want
WebLibre opens that page directly.
Pin, Edit, or Remove a Shortcut
You can pin the current page from the browser menu with Pin to Shortcuts.
Shortcut tiles also support extra actions through their menu. Depending on the kind of tile, you may see:
-
Pin
-
Edit
-
Remove
Pinned shortcuts are good for pages you want to keep available even if your browsing history changes.
If you edit a shortcut, you can change its title or address. If you remove one, WebLibre hides it from the Shortcuts area. Tap the + tile in Shortcuts to add one yourself by entering a title and address, without waiting for a suggested site. You can also hide suggestions from an entire site at once. Removed shortcuts stay hidden rather than reappearing when your history changes.
Reorder Shortcuts
If you have enough persisted shortcuts, WebLibre can let you reorder them.
To do that:
-
Open the Shortcuts section
-
Turn on reordering mode
-
Drag and drop the tiles into the order you want
Only persisted shortcuts take part in reordering. History-based suggestions may still appear, but they are not the same as your manually ordered pinned set.
How Shortcuts Differ from Bookmarks
Shortcuts are best for:
-
frequently opened pages
-
a small quick-access set
-
pages you want available from the start screen
Bookmarks are better for:
-
long-term saved pages
-
folders and subfolders
-
imports and exports
-
large organized collections
If you want a page to stay permanently easy to find, save it as a bookmark even if it also appears in Shortcuts.
Related Search Sections
The same start area can also show other quick sections, such as:
-
Recent Searches
-
Frequent Bangs
-
Recent Tabs
-
Recent History
-
History Highlights
-
Recent Articles
-
Containers
You can learn more about those in Search Modules.
Tips
-
Use Shortcuts for quick access and bookmarks for long-term organization
-
Pin the pages you want to keep stable even when your browsing habits change
-
Refresh the quote if you use the home surface as a calm starting page
-
If you prefer fewer sections in the start area, reorder or hide them through Search Modules
