History & Downloads

WebLibre gives you two related library screens:

  • History for pages you visited

  • Downloads for files the browser recorded as downloads

These screens are useful when you want to reopen something you saw earlier, clean up older entries, or remove download records without going through the full privacy settings flow.

Open History or Downloads

You can reach both screens from the browser menu:

  1. Open the browser menu

  2. Tap History or Downloads

For even quicker access, add the History button to your contextual toolbar. Open Settings > Toolbar & Layout > Customize Toolbar Buttons and move History from the Disabled section into Enabled.

The two screens use the same general layout, but they focus on different data.

What History Shows

The History screen shows pages WebLibre recorded during browsing.

Entries are grouped under Today, Yesterday, and calendar dates, with visit times shown in your device’s 12- or 24-hour format. Switch to Distinct URLs to group repeated visits to the same address. Each entry shows:

  • the page title when available

  • the page address

  • the visit time

  • the visit type

  • the container the visit came from, when one was recorded

The visit types currently exposed in the filter menu are:

  • Followed Links

  • Page Reloads

  • Downloads

If you tap a history entry, WebLibre opens it again in a regular tab.

The entry’s More actions menu offers opening in the background, copying or sharing the address, and deleting the visit. Long-press a history suggestion under the address bar to delete it; you can undo that deletion.

Container labels only apply to visits recorded after containers became history-aware. Existing history from older versions is not retroactively assigned to containers. Container history labels are local to WebLibre and do not sync across devices.

Recently Closed Tabs

Tap Recently closed tabs at the top of History to recover one of the last 10 regular tabs you closed. Reopening restores its back-button history and original container if that container still exists. You can reopen in the background, remove an entry, or clear the list. Private tabs, isolated tabs, and tabs from containers excluded from history are not kept. Clearing all browsing history clears this list too.

Reopen Closed Tab first uses the immediate close undo if available, then restores the most recent saved tab. Once the list is empty, WebLibre tells you there is nothing left to reopen.

What Downloads Shows

The Downloads screen shows download records saved by WebLibre.

This is the list of downloads the browser remembers. It is not the same thing as browsing your whole device storage in a file manager.

If you tap a completed download entry, WebLibre opens the downloaded file with the matching system app. Unfinished downloads do not open. The list shows starting, downloading, paused, and failed states, with progress and the amount downloaded when available. Use a download’s More actions menu to pause, resume, cancel, retry, or copy and share its source link. Removing a running or paused entry also cancels that download.

While browsing, WebLibre also tells you how downloads went: a Download completed snackbar appears with an Open action when a download finishes, and failed downloads show a clear Download failed message instead of failing silently. Built-in downloads use the resolved filename. By default they go to Android’s system Downloads folder, but you can choose another under Settings > General > Downloads > Download folder. Grant Android access to that folder when prompted. This choice also applies to saved links, images, and media. If WebLibre can no longer access it, new downloads fall back to the system Downloads folder. An external download manager controls its own save location; you can remember one with Always use this app and clear that choice under Preferred download manager.

Deleting a download entry from WebLibre does not always delete the file itself. If the file still exists on your device, WebLibre can ask whether you also want to remove the actual downloaded file.

Search and Text Filter

Both screens support a text filter.

To use it:

  1. Open the screen you want

  2. Tap Search history or Search downloads in the top bar

  3. Type part of the title, file name, or address

This helps when you know roughly what something was called but do not want to scroll through everything. Tap the same button to clear your query. If the field is already empty, tap it again to close search.

Filter by Date

Both screens can filter entries by a date range.

To do that:

  1. Open the filter menu

  2. Choose Filter Date

  3. Pick the start and end dates

This is useful when you only want to review downloads from one project, or history from one specific day or week.

Filter History by Visit Type

The History screen also lets you narrow the list by visit type.

From the filter menu, you can turn the available visit types on or off. That makes it easier to answer questions such as:

  • pages I actually followed from links

  • pages I reloaded repeatedly

  • download-related visits

The Downloads screen does not show these history-specific visit-type filters because it is already scoped to download entries.

Filter History by Container

The filter menu on the History screen also includes container filtering, so you can review only the visits recorded in one container.

Two related behaviors are worth knowing:

  • When a container filter is active, clearing history only clears that container’s history.

  • When you delete a container, WebLibre offers to also delete that container’s history. If you keep it, those visits remain but are shown without a container.

If you want a container to never record history at all, enable Exclude from History in that container’s settings.

Reset Filters

If the list looks incomplete after filtering:

  1. Open the filter menu

  2. Tap Reset Filter

That clears the search text and closes the search field, as well as resetting the date, visit-type, and container filters. You can also clear just the search text with the search button in the top bar.

Delete One Entry

To remove a single entry:

  • open the row’s More actions menu and choose Delete on History, or use the download entry’s actions on Downloads

On History, this removes that visit from the browser’s saved history. On Downloads, this removes the download record from WebLibre.

If the download still exists on your device, WebLibre may ask whether you also want to delete the file itself.

Delete History by Time Range

In History, first clear any container filter. Then tap the delete button and choose Delete Time Range…. Pick Last hour, Today, or Last 7 days, or set your own From and To date and time. This deletes visits across all containers and removes finished or failed downloads from that range from the download list, but keeps the downloaded files. Downloads still in progress remain in the list. Check the selected range before confirming, especially if you keep downloads for later reference.

While History is filtered to a container, Delete Time Range… is not offered. In that state the delete button asks you to confirm clearing all history for that container, not a time range.

Delete Multiple Entries

You can also remove several entries together:

  1. Long-press an item to enter selection mode

  2. Tap any other entries you want to include

  3. Tap the delete button in the top app bar

This is useful when clearing one browsing session or cleaning up several related downloads at once.

Clear the Whole Category

If you want to clear history or downloads more broadly:

  1. Open History or Downloads

  2. Tap the delete button when nothing is selected

  3. On History, choose Delete Browsing Data…

WebLibre then opens the regular delete-browsing-data flow with that category already selected. If you filtered History by a container, the delete button instead clears that container’s history.

This is a good option when you want to remove all history entries or all download records at once.

Relationship to Privacy Cleanup

The library screens are for reviewing and managing entries directly. WebLibre also has broader cleanup tools under Data Management, such as:

  • Delete Browsing Data

  • Delete Browsing Data Automatically

  • Auto-Clear History

Use the library screens when you want to inspect what is there first. Use privacy cleanup settings when you already know you want automatic or broader deletion behavior.

Tips

  • Use History when you want to reopen a page you forgot to bookmark

  • Use Downloads when you want to clean up WebLibre’s download list without opening Android’s file manager

  • Use the date filter before bulk deletion when you only want to remove one time window

  • If something should stay permanently easy to find, save it as a bookmark instead of relying only on history
